Here is a black and white version of the photo I took last night of the GW bridge that was lit up for Autism Awareness month. Of course, I left the lights blue – and actually kept the water blue because it complemented the lights on the bridge. So for those who prefer black and white photography – here it is. The blue on the bridge does stand out in this version…

April 2, was Autism awareness day. Disorders in the Autism spectrum are on the rise. As a former researcher, Autism and its spectrum of disorders has always held something of a special place in my mind and heart. Although progress is being made, like most complex disorders with a wide spectrum of symptoms, there are probably multiple causes, some of it genetic, some of it environmental all at play. As much as we need awareness, we need research dollars. Research like this can not be left to the private sector as the the road will lead down a dozen blind alleys. As is the case with most complex disorders, there is probably no one “cause”. Let us turn our attention to the reckless budget cutting that is going on in Washington and realize that this is making the pathway that much harder to get at the answers and possible solutions.

Happy Easter….

This photo was taken at Carlson’s Floral & Gift just about a week ago. It really says “spring” – and we certainly could use a little bit of spring in our lives. The entire place is a celebration of spring color right now. Its been so dark and dank that it is truly refreshing to see vibrant spring colors. Carlson’s is jam packed with ideas for home and garden. It is located on Dobbs Ferry Rd on Route 100B near the Sprain Brook Parkway access. Check it out sometime.

Lenten Contemplation…

This photo was taken one stormy day in early March in early Lent. The day was gray and the clouds were thick. I happened to be on Route 9 in Westchester in the Briarcliff area and the Scarborough Presbyterian Church made an appearance through the clouds and the fog. It seemed more contemplative than gloomy and that’s the way I tried to depict it here. Lent is a time to rethink our lives and where we are going. So on this last day of Lent, I thought this was a good photo to offer.

Cardinal caught on camera…..

This is probably one of the last gasps of my winter photo collection. I took it after it was “officially” spring, but it was cold like winter and we were expecting snow.

We have been seeing a lot of Cardinals lately on TV. Of course those Cardinals are actually humans and they were flocking to Rome for the election of the new Pope. But this is Cardinal of the avian kind…But a few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Rockefeller Preserve with Jade and Tundra and found myself fascinated by this little fellow by the bird feeder. He was hopping around flying back and forth from the trees behind the feeder, waiting patiently until the crows got their fill. But he was persistent – returning when they left to feed. Handsome isn’t he?

Spring is here….almost….

Yes, I know…it was supposed to snow today. But sometimes you just have to remind yourself that spring is just around the corner. So I visited my favorite local nursery – Carlson’s Floral & Gift on Route 100B in White Plains NY. There is much to enjoy there and every single corner is jam packed with ideas for the home and yard. It still feels like winter, but spring will soon be here.

Patriots Park in Winter – Blue Streams and Gray Skys – Tarrytown NY

Recently, I’ve been using the gray shades of winter to play with black and white photography and adding a dash of color. As spring blossoms, I will probably return more and more to true color . This is another such experiment…For the most part, the colors used the color reflects the real world, but this time its more fantasy than reality. Although the bridges and the streams are real enough and very interesting structures to shoot in and of themselves.

When Winter Gray Fades to Color! – Tarrytown NY Spring

Yes, I know we are getting some snow tomorrow night. How much and how long it will be on the ground is on everyone’s mind, but never fear. Spring is nearly here! And during the spring, the shades of white and gray of winter fade to vivid color. I took this in the spring of 2012 before I put this blog together. I have never seen wisteria trained like this before and doubt I’ll ever see another home with such a spectacular wisteria display again.

Tappan Zee Bridge Reflections (Color)

This is a silhouette that will soon pass into history. There will always be a Tappan Zee Bridge, but that bridge will assume a new form and shape over the coming years. Although a new vista will be created, we must not forget the original. The TZ has been there since before I was born and it has always been an iconic symbol of the River Towns.

This was taken on a still summer night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Hudson River so still. The vivid reflection was a result of those unique conditions.

The Photographer In Red…

While I was taking photos along the icy shoreline on the Hudson, I noticed a photographer wearing a bright red coat who had the same idea as me. While I was shooting, I managed to capture her taking photos of her own. Even more ironically, I was being photographed that day for a small TV segment. (Its a long story). So I was being photographed taking photos of someone who was also taking photos…..
