Generally speaking, the trees we light up during the winter solstice are conifers of some sort. Evergreens don’t lose their leaves so they are full and lush in the darkets of Decembers. However, the Solstice celebration is not for conifers only. After all, with each lengthening day, the deciduous trees come one day closer to producing their own bright foliage of spring. This tree obviously understood that the winter solstice means that its day to bloom is getting closer.
